Dussehra Tales brought to life – Nalini RamchnadranAuthor meet – Ms. Nalini Ramachandran
The students of grade 3 had a wonderful session with Ms Nalini Ramachandran, an Indian author who writes stories for children. Her short stories have been published in anthologies such as Gifts of Teaching and Scary Tales. She is also the author of the graphic novel biography of Dr A P J Abdul Kalam: One Man, Many Missions. Ms Ramachandran also edits children’s books and conducts workshops on creative writing and storytelling.
She started the session by giving a short description of her book Navadurga – The Nine Forms of the Goddess. She presented the nine forms of Durga and described each one of them emphasizing the fact that there are female superpowers too and not only Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. She went on to narrate the story of Goddess Kushmanda (one of the forms of Navadurga) where the goddess was responsible for the formation of the universe, the sun and all the other planets. She then narrated the story of Skandamata and how the goddess got her vehicle-The lion. She explained how nature is celebrated and worshipped in different ways in various parts of our country.
Ms Nalini connected well with the children and answered the queries posed by them. Children were extremely enthusiastic and participated actively in the session.
