Passion for petsThe Brigade School@ Mahadevapura – Nursery, LKG and UKG
National Pet Day was established in 2006 by animal welfare advocate Colleen Paige. Her mission was to shed light on the joy pets bring to their owner’s life, as well as bring attention to the ongoing needs of many pets waiting in shelters to find their forever homes. Pet Day was celebrated on 5th July 2021 for Nursery, LKG, and UKG students. The program began with an introduction about pet animals, followed by a video in which the teachers showcased their pets.
The main objective of organizing Pet Day is to sensitize children about animals & how to love and care for them. To create a sense of responsibility in the minds of children on how we need to love and care for other living beings. Pet Day is celebrated to show that man is a social being and he needs other living things around him. We need friends: plants and animals. The animals shown were fish, dogs, cats, cows, and birds.
Teachers spoke about the food habits of their pets, how to keep the pets clean and care for them. Children enjoyed listening to the bird (Cockatiel) whistling to the song ‘If you’re happy and you know it. The milking of cows and a beautiful rooster was shown. Animated peppy songs about pets were played.
A few children brought their pets were excited to show their pets and talk about them. Children who did not have pets were not disappointed as they were happy to display their stuffed animal toys and speak and describe t them.
Children thoroughly enjoyed the Pet Day Programme.
