Passion for pets
The Brigade School@ JP Nagar – Nursery, LKG and UKGAnimal Welfare Advocate Colleen Paige established National Pet Day in 2006 for her mission to shed light on the joy and happiness pets bring to their owner’s life. The need and care that many pets waiting in shelters need for their forever homes was discussed as well. The Brigade School celebrated Pet day on 5th July 2021 with our Nursery, LKG, and UKG students. It began with a brief introduction about domestic animals and a video in which the teachers familiarized their pets with the students.
The agenda for celebrating Pet Day was to spread awareness amongst children regarding animals and their habits, the love and care they need to be their best friend. To teach students a sense of responsibility and empathy towards other living beings. We further went into how a person needs to have friends, and nature (plants and animals) can be their best friend no matter what. The pet animals were shown to be fish, dogs, cats, cows, and birds.
It was explained to students the food habits of pets and how they vary based on the animal, how to care for the animal-based on hygiene, season, and gender. The children enjoyed listening to a bird (Cockatiel) whistling to the song ‘If you’re happy and you know it. Farm animals in their habitat were shown like milking a cow and roosters running around. Animated songs about pets were played, that the children were excited to watch.
A few students joined in the fun by introducing their pets to the group and speaking about them, the others spoke about their favorite animal and showcased the stuffed toy they owned of them. Overall the students were thoroughly delighted by the Pet Day Programme.
